Leicester City have set their sights on contract negotiations with midfielder, as reported by TeamTalk. It appears that other clubs have also shown interest in the 25-year-old player.
Hamza Choudhury emerged from Leicester’s academy and made his way into the first-team setup in 2015. He embarked on loan spells with Burton Albion in 2016 and 2017. Since then, Choudhury has made 89 appearances for the Foxes, scoring twice.
In the previous season, Choudhury was loaned to Watford, where he played 37 matches but couldn’t aid their promotion from the Championship. Leicester, enduring their own relegation to the Championship, now have Choudhury back at the King Power Stadium, sparking talks about his future.
Sources indicate that Leicester intends to initiate discussions with Choudhury regarding an extended contract at the King Power Stadium. There are several clubs monitoring the midfielder’s situation, contemplating a potential move for him. However, Leicester is determined to quash such speculation by securing a long-term deal.
Choudhury’s existing contract with Leicester concludes at the end of this season, potentially allowing him to depart on a free transfer next summer if an agreement isn’t reached before then. Upon his return to Leicester this season, under new manager Enzo Maresca, Choudhury has made five appearances. Nevertheless, he has only started in their victories against Burton Albion and Tranmere Rovers in the Carabao Cup.
Leicester has made a strong start to the campaign, currently positioned third in the Championship table with 12 points from their first five league games. They will resume their season after the September international break, facing Southampton away at St Mary’s, another team relegated from the Premier League last season.
It would be wise for Leicester to secure a new long-term contract for Choudhury.
