Matt Doherty highly impressed with 28-year-old Tottenham athlete on national duty.

The talented midfielder of Tottenham Hotspur, has garnered widespread acclaim for his outstanding performance representing Denmark against Finland during the international hiatus. Hojbjerg, who showcased his dynamic skills in back-to-back games for his national team, took to social media to express his delight after scoring a goal.

Nevertheless, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg journey at Tottenham has not been without challenges this season. Unlike his previous exploits under various Spurs managers, Hojbjerg has not gained the same favor under Ange Postecoglou, who has established his own set of preferred players. The attacking style of play favored by Postecoglou does not perfectly align with Hojbjerg’s strengths, unlike some of his teammates such as the remarkable Yves Bissouma and the accomplished Pape Matar Sarr, who have flourished alongside new recruit James Maddison. Consequently, Hojbjerg has mostly found himself relegated to the bench thus far.

Even when granted opportunities to play, Hojbjerg has not always met Postecoglou’s expectations. However, his recent performance for Denmark against Finland may have demonstrated his potential role at Spurs. He exhibited flashes of his attacking prowess, which have been scarce in North London.

Following the match, the 28-year-old midfielder posted a light-hearted comment on Instagram, stating, “Matchwinner yesterday, sill mamas boy today,” accompanied by a picture with his mother. Matt Doherty, Hojbjerg’s former teammate, lauded his impressive display, especially after Doherty struggled to deliver a similar result for Ireland. Rasmus Hojlund, Manchester United’s new £72m signing, also lavished praise on the experienced Dane’s performance.

Hojbjerg currently faces a challenging situation at Tottenham. Despite not being the first-choice player, he was tempted to leave the club during the summer, with Atletico Madrid displaying interest. However, as the possibility of joining Fulham seemed more likely, Hojbjerg ultimately decided to remain at Tottenham.

By consistently delivering strong performances for Denmark, as he did against Finland, Hojbjerg aims to enhance his prospects at Tottenham. Given Postecoglou’s propensity to grant opportunities to players in good form, Hojbjerg may have a chance to break into the starting lineup. Yet, displacing the likes of Bissouma or Sarr, who have made a blazing start to the season at Tottenham, may prove to be a formidable task.
