The talented footballer representing Aston Villa and Italy, has taken a stand against his critics, denouncing the media’s unfair portrayal of him as someone lacking respect for those around him.
Zaniolo recently made the move to Villa from Galatasaray, having previously played for Roma. The end of his tenure at Roma was marred by controversy, with fans displaying banners against him and some even harassing him at his home, leading him to relocate to his hometown before departing the Giallorossi.
Despite facing scrutiny after his performance against North Macedonia, Zaniolo showcased his prowess against Ukraine. In an interview with TMW following the game, he discussed the possibility of this match being a fresh start for him.
The Italian fervently defended himself, stating, “I have never stopped giving my all. I consistently adhere to the coach’s instructions and offer my assistance whenever required. Often, you label me as disrespectful off the pitch, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Without a doubt, I always make myself available, and this has always been the case throughout my career with various teams. I am genuinely ecstatic about this match and would rather focus on the present.”
He was also questioned about whether his position on the right flank is the most suitable for him and his future aspirations. Zaniolo explained, “I am capable of playing as a winger, attacking midfielder, or central midfielder. However, currently, this role brings out the best in me. Of course, there is always room for improvement, but with a coach who emphasizes both defensive and offensive aspects of the game, I feel comfortable. I am delighted with my performance.”
While Zaniolo’s start with Aston Villa has not been overwhelmingly impressive, as the season progresses, we may witness more fleeting moments of brilliance from him.
