According to reports in Spain, Aston Villa will make another attempt to sign full-back Marcos Acuna from Sevilla when the transfer window opens in January. Acuna was heavily linked with a move to Villa Park in the summer, but negotiations fell through due to Sevilla’s €15 million (£12.9m) asking price. However, it has now been suggested that Sevilla might be more open to letting Acuna go in the winter window. Villa are reportedly interested in the player, with manager Unai Emery keen to try and secure his signature. Acuna himself apparently agreed to the transfer in the summer, but other complications prevented the move from happening. The 31-year-old will have 18 months left on his contract by January, which could make Sevilla more willing to negotiate a deal rather than risk losing him on a free transfer. Acuna was seen as a potential replacement for injured Alex Moreno, but with the Spaniard now fit, he may face more competition for a place in the Villa squad. The Argentina international has made five appearances this season, including a memorable assist in a Super Cup clash against Manchester City. Despite missing several games due to injury, he has recently returned to action.
