Tielemans joined Villa Park in the summer after leaving Leicester City when they were relegated to the Championship. However, his time at Villa under Unai Emery has been fraught with difficulties.
Tielemans had hoped to compete in European competitions and maintain his place in the Belgium national team by joining Aston Villa, but things haven’t gone according to plan. Despite featuring in every Premier League game this season, he has yet to start a match and has only appeared as a substitute. He has started in EFL Cup and European Conference League matches but missed one of them.
During his time at Leicester City, Tielemans won the Community Shield and scored the winning goal in the FA Cup final against Chelsea with a remarkable long-range shot. However, his start at Villa Park has been challenging, as he stated in an interview, “The situation is not pleasant, I told the manager that I came to Villa to play. He understands me, but at the moment, he prefers to play with the two midfielders from last season. He told me that soon, there will be a succession of games and I’ll get more playing time.”
