In a surprising turn of events, Tottenham suffered the loss of Harry Kane this summer. However, rather than crumbling without their star striker, they have actually thrived as a team.
Since Kane’s departure, Spurs have remained unbeaten in the league and currently sit at the top of the table. Many believe that their performance has improved without the burden of heavily relying on Kane’s goals.
Contrary to this popular opinion, pundit Jane Aage Fjortoft has a different perspective. Fjortoft argues that Kane would have been an invaluable asset in Ange Postecoglou’s team, possibly even leading them to a league title.
Fjortoft’s praise for the £86 million player is evident as he states, “If they had Harry Kane this season, they’d probably win the league. Tottenham has shown resilience, but with a brilliant manager like Postecoglou, Kane would have thrived as well.”
While Fjortoft’s viewpoint is understandable, it is difficult to argue that Spurs are worse off without Kane. Despite his decade-long tenure as their leading man, they failed to achieve any significant silverware. It seems counterintuitive to claim that Kane is the missing piece in their success puzzle.
Whilst recognizing Kane’s undeniable talent, it is worth acknowledging that he may have become too much of a focal point for Tottenham. This overreliance could have hindered the overall team performance.
For so long, Kane was hailed as Spurs’ main man, but their trophy cabinet remained untouched. Now, however, they appear to have found their stride and authenticity without him.
