Phil Hay believes that the toughest decision Daniel Farke faces for Leeds United’s upcoming match against Leicester City is who to start at right-back. Speaking on the Square Ball Podcast, Hay discussed the team selection for Leeds’ toughest game of the season so far. If Summerville, Rodon, and Byram all come through Wednesday’s training session without any problems, Farke will have no new injury concerns to deal with. This suggests that he will stick with the same team that demolished Huddersfield Town 4-1 last weekend. However, the biggest selection dilemma is whether to start Shackleton or Gray at right-back, although Hay expects the team to remain unchanged.
According to Hay, the decision is difficult because of the significant difference in the level of opposition between Leicester and Huddersfield. Although Shackleton looked good at right-back against Huddersfield, Gray’s performance against Bristol City may have been superior. Hay suggests that it would be wise to stick with the same starting eleven since the team played well in the previous match.
Both Shackleton and Gray have struggled at right-back in away games, with Shackleton having a tough time against Southampton and Gray performing below par against Stoke and Norwich City. However, Gray was rested for the West Yorkshire derby, giving him fresh legs for the upcoming match.
Considering Gray’s physical stature, he should be given the opportunity to face Leicester’s attacking players and handle the challenges they present.
