Wes Morgan’s career reached its pinnacle when he captained Leicester City to their extraordinary Premier League triumph in the 2015/16 season. However, he acknowledges that one of his teammates played a crucial role in their remarkable success.
Reflecting on that memorable season in an interview with FourFourTwo, Morgan explains how N’Golo Kante, their summer signing, left the entire squad in awe during his first training session.
“We were taken aback by how talented Kante was; he seemed to be everywhere on the pitch. His arrival came as a surprise to us, as we didn’t know much about him. But he made an immense impression on all of us, faster than anyone I’ve ever played with,” Morgan reveals.
Kante became an indispensable part of their perfectly functioning system, essentially providing an additional player in midfield. His impact on the team was groundbreaking.
When Kante joined Leicester from Caen in 2015, he was relatively unknown. However, he went on to play in almost every game for Claudio Ranieri’s squad, contributing significantly to their historic triumph ahead of football giants Arsenal and Tottenham.
After just one season at King Power Stadium, the Frenchman transferred to Chelsea, where he continued his success. He secured another Premier League winners medal in the 2016/17 season, as well as earning the esteemed titles of PFA Player of the Year and FWA Footballer of the Year.
