In the winter transfer window of 2023, Ayoze Perez bid farewell to Leicester City just before his contract with the Foxes expired. He made a move to Real Betis on a loan deal until the end of the season, followed by a permanent switch to the Sevilla club.
This marked Perez’s return to Spain after spending the majority of his career in England. During his time at Newcastle United, he often expressed his desire to play in La Liga to the Spanish media. However, when he left the Magpies, he joined Leicester City instead.
It seems that Perez may not have felt completely appreciated at Leicester, especially towards the end of his tenure at the club. His transfer to Betis brought a new sense of joy to the versatile attacker, resembling a breath of fresh air.
In an interview with AS, Perez was asked about how the signing of Isco has benefited the former Real Madrid player at Betis. Perez found that he could relate, stating, “I had a similar experience, which is why I stayed. Playing football made me happy again, I felt like a true footballer once more, and that is invaluable. I understand Isco perfectly.”
