Leicester City can breathe a sigh of relief as they may not need to worry about Kelechi Iheanacho’s contract situation, thanks to the return of one of their summer signings.
The team’s busy summer transfer window saw several players come and go as they aimed to rebuild under Enzo Maresca. Among the new arrivals was Tom Cannon, who joined from Everton after an impressive run in the second tier with Preston North End.
Unfortunately, due to a stress fracture in his back, Cannon didn’t make his debut for Leicester until their 16th game of the season against Middlesbrough. However, with his return, the club is pleased for more than one reason, particularly as it concerns Iheanacho’s contract.
Iheanacho has been a key player for Leicester this season, featuring in 16 league games and scoring five goals. With only a few months left on his current contract, rumors of a possible move to West Ham in January have emerged. It seems logical for Leicester to consider cashing in on Iheanacho while they still can, especially with Cannon now available.
Even with Cannon still finding his place in the lineup, Leicester has Jamie Vardy and Patson Daka as attacking options. By January, the hope is that Cannon will have gained confidence and be fully settled into the team.
The 20-year-old’s promising performances for Preston last season made him a hot prospect for Championship sides, but Leicester managed to secure his signature. With Everton struggling in attack due to injuries, Cannon’s determination to succeed at Leicester is even stronger.
As the young forward looks to make a name for himself and push for promotion to the Premier League, Leicester may rest easy knowing that Iheanacho’s potential departure could be offset by Cannon’s return.
