When Leicester City visits Hillsborough to take on Sheffield Wednesday, the Owls will face a familiar threat in the form of Tom Cannon, a player they once targeted. The Championship match on Wednesday evening poses a challenge for Sheffield as they go up against a team that is currently favored for promotion to the Premier League.
To make matters worse, Leicester’s manager has confirmed that all of their strikers, including Cannon, who transferred to the King Power Stadium for a reported £7.5m earlier this year, are now fully fit and ready to play. The only player unavailable for Leicester is Callum Doyle due to injury.
This means that Leicester has a multitude of attacking options to choose from, including Jamie Vardy, Kelechi Iheanacho, Patson Daka, and Cannon. In addition, Wilfried Ndidi, Dennis Praet, and Yunus Akgun are also fully fit and available to play in various positions on the field.
Enzo Maresca, Leicester’s manager, addressed the unavailability of players, saying, “Callum is the only one… We had some injuries before the international break, but now Wilf, Dennis, Yunus – they are all back. It’s crucial because we have an important run of games, and it’s important to have the opportunity to choose from them.”
Maresca also emphasized Cannon’s fitness and the competition amongst strikers, stating, “Tom is completely fit. He has been training with us for many weeks. He needs to be patient and continue working hard. We have Jamie, Kel, and Patson, so it’s challenging… He has to keep working the way he is working, and he will surely get his chances. Each of them brings something different to the team. Tom, being young and full of energy, can contribute off the ball and has excellent finishing abilities. It’s just a matter of time for him.”
In contrast, Sheffield Wednesday has a few players either unavailable or doubtful for the match. Josh Windass is suspended, Michael Smith’s fitness is uncertain, Momo Diaby is unregistered, and Juan Delgado is still recovering from hip surgery. However, Callum Paterson returns from his one-game suspension, providing a boost for the Owls.
