Everton and Crystal Palace considering transfer raid for Leicester City 22-year-old

The player’s outstanding performance this season has caught the attention of Premier League clubs as the January transfer window approaches.

According to Football Transfers, both Everton and Crystal Palace have expressed interest in the 22-year-old Leicester City winger.

McAteer, who progressed through Leicester’s youth system, has made sporadic appearances for the senior team over the past two seasons. He also had loan spells in League Two with Forest Green Rovers and AFC Wimbledon.

However, this season has seen McAteer emerge as a vital player for Leicester in the Championship as they aim to secure immediate promotion to the Premier League.

Despite battling injuries, McAteer has scored five goals in 12 appearances across all competitions for manager Enzo Maresca’s side this campaign.

The recent report indicates that both Everton and Crystal Palace are closely monitoring McAteer with the intent of a potential move in January.

Both clubs are keen to strengthen their options in the wide areas and have identified McAteer as a suitable candidate for that role.

There is also speculation that McAteer would prefer not to join a club facing relegation to the Championship, as he is eager to secure top-flight football.

Everton currently finds themselves in 19th place in the Premier League, five points away from safety after a ten-point deduction. Meanwhile, Palace sits in 13th position, ten points clear of the relegation zone.

Furthermore, the report suggests that McAteer is enjoying the promotion battle with Leicester this season, implying that a move next summer could also be a potential outcome.

McAteer’s current contract with Leicester extends for another year and a half, guaranteeing his presence at The King Power Stadium until the end of the 2024/25 season.

Leicester is also reportedly eager to extend his contract beyond that period, demonstrating their desire to keep him amidst interest from other clubs.

It appears that signing McAteer would be a smart move for either Everton or Crystal Palace.

Although he is still early in his career and lacks extensive senior experience, his performances this season showcase his immense potential at a high level. As he continues to develop, he could prove to be a valuable asset for any team.

Considering this, it would be wise for one of these clubs to act swiftly and secure his services either in January or next summer to avoid missing out on his talents.
