Leeds United has expressed interest in signing Northern Ireland international Trai Hume from Sunderland, according to TEAMtalk. The publication reported on Sunday that the Black Cats may be open to selling the player, with Premier League club Burnley and Championship leaders Leicester City also showing interest in the full-back.
According to TEAMtalk sources, Burnley, Leicester, and Leeds are all closely monitoring Hume. Despite signing a new long-term contract in the summer that is set to last until 2027 with the option of an additional year, Sunderland could be tempted to sell Hume in order to turn a profit.
Hume has quickly risen through the ranks since arriving in English football in 2022 from Linfield in Northern Ireland. The 21-year-old has made 56 appearances for Sunderland, playing both right-back and left-back this season and scoring one goal in 19 appearances.
Although Sunderland will want to hold on to the young defender, their potential profit from selling him for significantly more than the £200,000 they initially paid may be tempting. Leeds may face competition from Burnley, who could have a financial advantage due to their Premier League status. However, Leeds’ prospects of joining the Premier League next season could also play a role in their ability to secure Hume’s signing.
