Leicester City have received disappointing news with the looming January transfer window. Reports have surfaced that Brighton is prepared to meet Valentin Barco’s £8.5 million release clause to bring the 19-year-old defender to their team. Barco, known for his standout performances with Boca Juniors, is faced with making a decision about his future following the club’s loss in the Copa Libertadores final. Manchester City had also shown interest in the young talent, with plans to purchase him and then loan him out to Leicester. However, it appears that this potential plan will not come to fruition. With Barco’s contract set to expire in 12 months, Boca Juniors are expected to sell him in January. Although his promising defensive abilities could have benefitted Leicester, it seems likely that he will be heading to Brighton instead. Despite this transfer setback, Leicester is currently topping the Championship table and hopes to earn promotion back to the Premier League. Their next match will be against Plymouth Argyle on 9 December. Although a move to Leicester would have provided promising options for Barco and his future, it seems that Brighton’s track record for nurturing young talent makes them an appealing destination for the 19-year-old defender.
