As we head into the January transfer window, Nayef Aguerd’s name may soon be making appearances in the gossip columns, based on the last stages of the summer. Alan Nixon from The Sun reported that Aguerd is drawing interest from Lyon in Ligue 1, despite previously being targeted by Liverpool, Manchester City, and an undisclosed Saudi Arabian club. However, given his regular playing time under David Moyes and his long-term contract, it would seem illogical to sell him. The potential replacement, Dan-Axel Zagadou of Stuttgart, would come with a high price and may not necessarily be an improvement over Aguerd as a defender. Therefore, it appears more sensible for West Ham to keep Aguerd rather than seek a replacement, as their need for strengthening lies in other positions.
