According to sources, Aston Villa is confident that they can secure Kelechi Iheanacho from Leicester City for a price between £5-10 million in the upcoming January transfer window. The 27-year-old’s contract with Leicester City will expire at the end of the 2023-24 season, and negotiations for an extension have reportedly stalled.
Aston Villa is seeking a forward in the January transfer window to provide cover and competition for Ollie Watkins, Leon Bailey, and Moussa Diaby. In addition to Iheanacho, the club has expressed interest in RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner, who is currently out of favor at his Bundesliga club.
Iheanacho has made 20 appearances for Leicester so far this season, scoring six goals and providing two assists. He has also been a regular for the Nigerian national team as they prepare for the African Cup of Nations.
Having previously played for Manchester City, Iheanacho is no stranger to the Premier League, with 42 goals in 196 top-flight appearances to his name. Although Aston Villa missed the opportunity to move to the top of the Premier League standings, Unai Emery’s team is still in the Europa Conference League, with their next continental fixture scheduled for March.
