Leam Richardson is expressing his hope that Rotherham United can draw upon the resilient spirit demonstrated in their previous encounter with Middlesbrough, aiming to reignite their struggling season.
Despite the Millers’ valiant efforts, they remain nine points adrift from safety at the bottom of the Championship standings, having suffered a 3-0 defeat against table-toppers Leicester City on Saturday.
Looking back to last season, Rotherham found themselves in danger of relegation before achieving a vital victory over Middlesbrough on their home turf, ultimately dispelling the threat.
When asked about the significance of the upcoming Boxing Day clash against Boro at the packed New York Stadium, Richardson expressed his optimism, stating, “Certainly, if it brings about a positive environment, it can do wonders for us. It would be fantastic to replicate that. Hopefully, we can deliver a similar level of performance and achieve a positive outcome on Boxing Day.”
Reflecting on their recent match at the King Power Stadium, Richardson’s side held firm for an hour before conceding three goals within a 12-minute span, allowing Leicester to extend their lead by six points at the top of the table.
The Foxes made their breakthrough with Patson Daka netting from close range. Daka further solidified their advantage, converting a penalty five minutes later after being fouled by Viktor Johansson.
