With the window just around the corner, West Ham is gearing up to be proactive. This entails offloading some players to facilitate new signings.
David Moyes recently communicated to former West Ham striker Les Ferdinand that he’s actively seeking a new forward. Following the win over Arsenal, Moyes confirmed that due to injuries and the AFCON tournament, he will be looking to bolster his squad next month.
Given Mohammed Kudus’ absence to AFCON and Michail Antonio’s prolonged injury (turning 34 in March), West Ham is in need of a forward for short-term and long-term stability.
One of the prospects being considered for this position is the young Northern Ireland star, Callum Marshall.
According to a report, it is suggested that the dynamic international striker is in line for discussions with West Ham concerning a potential loan move. The Belfast Telegraph has reported that West Ham is considering opening contract talks with Marshall in anticipation of a prospective loan move for the striker.
Marshall’s current deal at the London Stadium extends until the end of next season, as he signed professional terms shortly after turning 18 in November 2022.
Colchester United and Swindon Town are reportedly among the clubs expressing interest in securing Marshall on loan from West Ham.
However, the report raises doubts about Marshall’s commitment to a new deal with West Ham due to his limited involvement in the first team, despite earning three caps for Northern Ireland. It would be a significant setback if Marshall decides against extending his contract with West Ham, as there’s been a worrying pattern of top young talents departing from the club in recent years.
The club is eager to reverse this trend by securing Marshall’s long-term commitment. Some fans believe that given his international stature and the team’s shortage of quality upfront, Marshall merits more opportunities on the pitch.
Notably, Moyes has at times rotated Kudus and Lucas Paqueta with Jarrod Bowen in the striker role. Moreover, an injury to the Brazilian has highlighted the lack of depth and quality in the forward position.
