Chelsea and Leicester to go head to head in race to sign 2023 U17 World Cup winner 

Chelsea and Leicester City are in pursuit of VfL Wolfsburg and Germany youth international, David Odogu, who has Nigerian heritage.Florian Plettenberg, a German transfer market expert, has reported that both English clubs have begun talks with the talented center back, although discussions are still in the early stages.Odogu is reportedly open to leaving Wolfsburg in the current transfer window, and his agent has been exploring options with other clubs.The promising defender played a crucial role for the Germany U17 team, which secured victory in the FIFA U17 World Cup last year. He contributed with one assist and featured in all matches during the tournament.Having started his career in the youth system of Steglitzer SC Südwest, Odogu later made a move to Union Berlin where he spent a year before joining Wolfsburg in 2020. He is currently a part of the club’s U19 team and has made eleven appearances across various competitions this season.Odogu was also named in Wolfsburg’s Bundesliga matchday squad last season, although he did not feature in the team’s 3-0 win over Mainz O5.Known for his physicality, pace, and strong tackling ability, the 17-year-old right-footed center-back has drawn comparisons to former Chelsea defender Antonio Rüdiger. He is also capable of playing on the opposite side of the central defense.
