Leicester City and Rangers Engage in Tussle for Dutch Winger

Both the Foxes and the Gers are vying for the services of 22-year-old Million Manhoef in the January transfer window.
Leicester City’s remarkable standing at the top of the Championship table hasn’t halted the potential need for Enzo Maresca’s squad to bolster themselves in the January transfer window.
Despite their dominant display in the second tier this season, where they are currently 10 points clear of the nearest rivals, Ipswich Town, having amassed 65 points in 26 matches, the Foxes are still being linked to attacking reinforcements. This could perhaps be attributed to Kelechi Iheanacho’s absence due to the African Cup of Nations and uncertainties surrounding the striker’s future.
One potential addition is Fabio Carvalho, whose loan switch from Liverpool to the King Power Stadium has been proposed following an underwhelming stint at RB Leipzig in Germany. Adding to the mix, another winger has emerged as a potential target for the East Midlands outfit.
Leicester Sets Sights on Manhoef Amid Rangers’ Interest
As per a report from TEAMtalk, Leicester has identified Dutch winger Million Manhoef, currently playing for Vitesse, as a prime target.
The 22-year-old has notched four goals in 15 Eredivisie appearances this season, and his previous season saw a notable performance with nine goals and five assists. Manhoef boasts 10 appearances for the Netherlands under-21 team and has featured in 84 senior matches for Vitesse. Despite his quality, a fee of £3 million is believed to be sufficient to secure his transfer this month, even with 18 months left on his contract.
However, Scottish Premiership side Rangers are also eyeing Manhoef, posing a formidable challenge in the pursuit of his services.
Manhoef’s evident talent, speed, and productive output make him an ideal fit as the type of right winger Maresca favors, one who cuts in onto his stronger foot and makes things happen.
Nevertheless, Leicester currently has a similar player in Abdul Fatawu, on loan from Sporting CP, with a possibility of a permanent deal if the Foxes secure promotion to the Premier League, an outcome seemingly within reach. The Ghanaian has made significant contributions in the Championship with nine goals, showing promising development. Additionally, Leicester counts on Yunus Akgun for that position, not to mention Kasey McAteer, a right-footed right winger who has primarily featured in that role.
With an array of options at his disposal, Maresca’s decision on integrating Manhoef into the team for game-time in their promotion push remains an open question. However, Leicester’s current trajectory and decisions certainly merit confidence and support.
