WEST HAM set to splash over £20m to land new transfer target: the attacker is one of the best

Two months ago, Calciomercato.it revealed that West Ham United was interested in signing Genoa’s star player Albert Guðmundsson and was willing to meet the Serie A side’s €20m asking price in the upcoming winter transfer market.

Now, in January, Gianluca Di Marzio provides an update on West Ham’s ongoing efforts to secure the 26-year-old’s signature.

Guðmundsson, who primarily plays as a winger but has been deployed behind the striker this season, has impressively scored 10 goals and provided three assists in 19 games. His standout performances have piqued the interest of the Hammers, who have reportedly made a move to sign him this month. However, it remains unclear if an official offer has been made by David Moyes’ team for the Icelandic international.

Despite West Ham’s pursuit, Genoa has rebuffed all of their attempts to secure the talented attacker, as he is their top scorer and among the best in his position in Serie A. The Italian club is unwilling to let Guðmundsson leave and has effectively blocked West Ham’s attempts to acquire his services.
