TRANSFER BATTLE: West Ham stunned as Man Utd move to hijack deal for 116-goal striker as Ratcliffe also eyes Real Madrid icon

Man Utd in pole position to sign Stuttgart striker Serhou Guirassy as club billionaire mulls over deal

Manchester United are emerging as the front-runners to secure the services of Serhou Guirassy from Stuttgart, with reports indicating that club owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is seriously considering making a move for the prolific striker.

The Red Devils headed into the brief January break after managing to secure a 2-2 draw against Tottenham at Old Trafford. Despite taking the lead twice during the game, United had to settle for a point as Tottenham put up a valiant effort, and could have even snatched all three points had they been more clinical in front of goal.

This draw leaves United with a lot of work to do in the second half of the season as they aim to climb up the Premier League table.

Statistics prior to Sunday’s game revealed that United were the least efficient finishers in the Premier League, having missed the most significant chances. Although manager Erik ten Hag was satisfied with the goals scored against Tottenham, United remain the lowest scorers in the top half of the table, only surpassing the likes of Crystal Palace, Sheffield United, and Burnley in terms of goals scored throughout the season so far.

Given the circumstances, Ten Hag is keen to bolster his squad with a new No 9 to provide competition for Rasmus Hojlund, who is starting to find form as a striker. After ruling out a move for Timo Werner, United are exploring alternative options, with the potential signing of Guirassy gaining momentum.

Football Insider reports that United are now serious about hijacking West Ham’s pursuit of Guirassy, who has been in sensational form this season, scoring 19 goals in 16 games for Stuttgart in the Bundesliga. It’s now suggested that United and AC Milan are also contenders for the signature of the 27-year-old striker, who has an affordable exit clause of €17.5m (£15m) in his contract.

Additionally, United are also linked with a move for Karim Benzema, who is reportedly considering leaving Al-Ittihad. The former Real Madrid striker has been a prolific scorer for the Saudi side but is now facing uncertainties. United’s interest in Benzema has been endorsed by former United striker Louis Saha, who believes his arrival would significantly improve the team’s attacking prowess.
