According to a report in Friday’s print edition of the newspaper (page 56, 19 January), the midfielder is expected to leave this month due to a lack of playing time. The Mirror also mentioned that Crystal Palace and Newcastle United are interested in signing the England international.
West Ham may have difficulty completing a move for Phillips this month due to the interest from other clubs. There is also likely to be interest from other teams outside of the Premier League given Phillips’ ability.
Phillips had a successful stint at Leeds United before his move to Manchester City, where things have not gone as planned for either him or the club. It would be in Phillips’ best interest to seek an exit from Manchester to revive his career, although it’s uncertain where he will end up or whether the transfer will be temporary or permanent.
Guardiola has preferred other players ahead of Phillips, so a move away from Manchester is necessary for his career. West Ham recently revamped their midfield with the addition of Edson Alvarez and James Ward-Prowse, following the departure of Declan Rice. Phillips could potentially be an addition to the team, as he has the backing of Hammers ace Michail Antonio, who praised his “unreal quality.”
In other news, there is interest from other clubs to sign a Hammers international on loan following his recent appearance in the FA Cup. For more updates on West Ham news, follow their Facebook page or join their new WhatsApp Channel.
