Earlier in the transfer window, reports emerged from Italy claiming that West Ham United had made a move for Genoa’s Albert Gudmundsson.
The Iceland international has been in outstanding form this season, and Genoa initially wanted to hold onto their key players in January, but ultimately let Radu Dragusin go to Tottenham.
However, they are determined to keep hold of Gudmundsson, as reports from Il Messaggero, relayed by Calciomercato, indicate that Lazio have now also joined the list of clubs interested in the winger alongside West Ham and others.
While the Hammers and Aston Villa are said to be the main English suitors for Gudmundsson, he is also being followed by Inter Milan, AC Milan, AS Roma, and Napoli in Italy. The price set by Genoa for the player is around €25m, a fee that West Ham could afford if they are serious about signing him.
Despite the financial aspect, it seems that the Serie A side would prove to be a difficult negotiating partner. It is unlikely that any club, including West Ham, will be able to secure his signature this January. This transfer appears to be more realistic for the summer window.
