“Mads Hermansen’s lack of range and shot-stopping quality is a major crisis for Leicester goalkeeper situation!”

Leicester acquired Mads Hermansen from Brondby during the summer transfer window. The 23-year-old Danish u.21 international possesses exceptional distribution skills, catching the attention of Enzo Maresca. However, his shortcomings in traditional goalkeeping have been overshadowed.

At the club, Danny Ward and Jakub Stolarczyk also serve as goalkeepers, none of whom are currently considered high-quality Premier League goalkeepers. It is believed that Leicester must conduct a new search if they want to return to the top.

Poor organization from the back has cost the team numerous points, as there is a lack of leadership and proper use of passes, resulting in a shaky start. While it may seem unfair to critique the Leicester team, it is necessary to address and fix existing problems, particularly Hermansen’s inconsistent distribution and risky passing.

A goalkeeper’s primary duty is to prevent opponents from scoring goals and properly distribute the ball to their teammates. However, Hermansen’s height of 1.87m does not seem to provide him with the necessary range to effectively save goals. As Leicester pursued Anthony Patterson, it became clear that while Patterson may not have the same level as Hermansen, he demonstrated a sense of stability.

Leicester fans are accustomed to having exceptional goalkeepers like Kasper Schmeichel, Mark Wallington, Peter Shilton, and Gordon Banks, and it is unlikely that Hermansen will reach that level. Leicester’s current style of playing out from the back may not be suitable for the Premier League, especially with a goalkeeper who is not adept at shot-stopping or organizing the defense effectively.

Hermansen’s statistics are relatively good but not outstanding, and despite his 6.6 points in the Foxes Talk ratings, he does not appear to be a significant contributor to the team’s success. It is evident that there is a significant gap to fill after Kasper Schmeichel, and it remains uncertain whether Hermansen possesses the necessary qualities to excel at a higher level.

Prior to this season, Hermansen was an unknown figure, and he was not considered a potential first-choice goalkeeper at Leicester. It is hoped that he does not become another forgettable addition to the list of unsuccessful goalkeepers at the club.
