Robinson expressed his skepticism regarding Manchester United’s potential January acquisition of Ryan Sessegnon from Tottenham, especially after the return of Sergio Reguilon. He acknowledged that such deals may still take place during this month.
According to The Independent’s Miguel Delaney, there is speculation that Sessegnon could move to Old Trafford following the completion of the deal for his Spanish teammate. Robinson highlighted the cautious approach teams are taking due to concerns about Financial Fair Play (FFP) breaches, noting that loan deals may be the surprising outcome of this situation.
With Sessegnon’s limited playing time this season due to injury, Robinson believes it is unlikely that Manchester United will pursue him before the deadline. He also emphasized the challenge for the Spurs manager in allowing players to leave, given the team’s need to strengthen the squad due to numerous absent players.
Robinson exclusively shared his thoughts with Tottenham News, stating, “The priority for Tottenham right now is to bring in players due to the extensive list of absentees. Reguilon’s return from Manchester United didn’t work out, and it seems unlikely that he has a future with Ange at Tottenham.”
He added, “Sessegnon’s lack of game time would be a concern for any potential suitors. I would be surprised if United were to make a move for him given his limited Premier League appearances. The fear of FFP and the impact of profit and sustainability regulations, as seen with Everton and Nottingham Forest, are contributing to the quiet January transfer window. Despite this, unexpected loan deals may still occur, surprising many.”
