Tottenham Hotspur is aiming to bolster their midfield before Thursday and are reportedly targeting Atalanta star, Ederson as their top choice. However, securing a deal for Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher appears to be unlikely, leading Spurs to focus more on the realistic option of Ederson.
According to reports from Italy, Tottenham have approached Atalanta about signing Ederson, who is valued at around £30m and is open to a move to the Premier League. Surprisingly, it is suggested that Fabio Paratici, who has previously helped Spurs with transfers, may be assisting in getting the deal done.
The report also claims that Paratici is working to help Tottenham secure a deal for Ederson, potentially thwarting Juventus’ hopes of signing him. This has been described as ‘revenge’ for Paratici, who was previously banned from football for his involvement in a scandal at Juventus.
While signing a new midfielder is not a pressing necessity for Tottenham, it would certainly benefit them. The main obstacle seems to be the inability to offload players like Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to free up space in the squad and budget. Ederson is considered a strong option for Spurs, but there may be a feeling that they are settling for him due to their struggles in acquiring Gallagher.
If this is the case, it might be in Tottenham’s best interest to wait until the summer transfer window for a more ideal signing.
