Bayer Leverkusen has made an approach to Crystal Palace in an attempt to sign Jean-Philippe Mateta. Alan Nixon suggests that if the sale goes through, it could also benefit West Ham. Crystal Palace has already turned down an enquiry from RB Leipzig for the Frenchman, but now Xabi Alonso’s Bundesliga leaders have made their move. The Eagles are asking for £20m for Mateta and are demanding that a replacement be signed first. There is interest in Marseille’s Iliman Ndiaye, but complications have arisen due to his involvement in the Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal. According to Nixon, a potential deal with Bayer Leverkusen could also impact West Ham, as the London club admires Bayer Leverkusen’s Victor Boniface. Crystal Palace should consider lowering their demands for Mateta, as a £15m offer from Bayer Leverkusen may be more realistic. Despite Mateta’s popularity among fans, his goal-scoring record for Crystal Palace is not particularly impressive. If the club can make a profit on the initial £9m investment, they should explore a deal. However, they must first find a replacement, which could potentially be PSG’s Hugo Ekitike. Stay tuned for further developments at Selhurst Park before the transfer deadline on Thursday.
