MAJOR BLOW: Tottenham suffer blow as star Ange Postecoglou is ‘very keen on’ is set to sign a new deal

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou may lose out on his target Sebastian Szymanski as the midfielder considers signing a new contract with Fenerbahce. The Poland international has caught the attention of Spurs after an impressive season with 12 goals and 14 assists in all competitions.

Last week, Turkish publication Star reported that Postecoglou was eager to bring Szymanski to Tottenham next season. The Australian manager had scouts watch the player in action against Samsunspor, which ended in a 1-1 draw. However, Polish outlet Meczyki revealed that nothing will happen with Szymanski during the current transfer window. Fenerbahce will open talks about the player’s future in February or March.

Fenerbahce may offer a pay increase to persuade the 24-year-old to stay, but his future will ultimately be determined by potential offers for him. Szymanski joined Fenerbahce from Dynamo Moscow last summer for around £8 million, and his current deal runs until 2027.

If Postecoglou believes Szymanski fits into his team, he may ask Tottenham to make an offer that could sway Fenerbahce. Despite a strong start to the season, Tottenham have hit a rough patch and are currently fifth in the table, three points behind fourth-place Aston Villa.
