Real Betis pull surprise by leaving out two January signings from Europa Conference League squad

Real Betis underwent a major overhaul during the winter transfer window, with several new additions and departures from the squad. The team welcomed Johnny Cardoso early in January, and finalized their transfer dealings with the signings of Chimy Avila, Cedric Bakambu, and Pablo Fornals on the final day of the window. This resulted in the exits of Luiz Henrique, Andres Guardado, and Borja Iglesias, leading to a significant shake-up in their squad ahead of the Europa Conference League.

In accordance with UEFA regulations, Real Betis made three changes to their European squad before the knockout stages. Manager Manuel Pellegrini made the decision to exclude some notable first-team players in favor of new additions.

Reportedly, Pellegrini has included Chadi Riad, Cardoso, and Bakambu in his squad for the Europa Conference League, leaving Avila and Fornals on the sidelines. Additionally, Youssouf Sabaly, Sokratis, and Sergi Altimira did not make the cut for the original Europa League squad.

Despite omitting Avila and Fornals, Real Betis is optimistic about their prospects in the Europa Conference League. Their campaign kicks off later in the month, with a play-off round match against Dinamo Zagreb.
