West Ham United came up short in their attempts to sign Ibrahim Osman during the January transfer window, and now it looks like Brighton has secured his signature.
David Moyes made a strong push to bring Osman to West Ham in January, but ultimately the club couldn’t meet Nordsjælland’s asking price of £20 million for the 19-year-old winger.
Now, Brighton has reportedly secured Osman for just £16.6 million, according to a report from The Athletic.
Many West Ham fans are voicing their displeasure on social media, blaming Moyes, Tim Steidten, and the club’s owners for failing to finalize a deal for the young Ghanaian.
However, I believe missing out on Osman might not be such a bad thing for West Ham. At 19, he has yet to prove himself at the highest level.
While Osman undoubtedly has potential, there’s a strong argument that he may not be ready for Premier League football.
Furthermore, I believe West Ham has bigger plans for the summer…
A triple summer deal could quickly make West Ham fans forget about Ibrahim Osman.
In January, the Hammers were linked with three exciting attacking players. I think Moyes could revisit their signings in the summer.
Steven Bergwijn from Ajax and Jack Clarke from Sunderland were both pursued by West Ham in January. Additionally, Albert Gudmundsson of Genoa was reportedly a £22 million target for Moyes.
Bergwijn is said to be available for around £27 million, while Clarke could cost roughly £20 million.
A £69 million investment in these three players would greatly enhance West Ham’s attacking options. They are proven players who could immediately make an impact at the London Stadium.
As for Osman, there are no guarantees of success at the highest level.
Personally, I would prefer to see Bergwijn, Clarke, and Gudmundsson at West Ham over Ibrahim Osman any day of the week. I hope Moyes can make it happen in the summer.
