New reports from the Brazilian media are reigniting the speculation about the future of West Ham’s defender Luizao. According to IG, there are suggestions that the player may be leaving the Hammers soon, but the team is not making it easy.
Despite interest from Brazil, manager David Moyes and his team are not keen on loaning out the 21-year-old. Luizao joined West Ham in January 2023 as a free agent from Sao Paulo’s senior squad, but he has yet to make his senior debut in the Premier League. His contract with the club runs until summer 2026.
Currently playing for the U21 squad, West Ham wants him to gain experience in English football before making a move. The club reportedly set his price tag at £4.2 million (€5m) when negotiating with Monaco, but the French club was hesitant to meet the demands during the January transfer window.
Several Brazilian clubs have attempted to loan the defender, but negotiations have not been successful. The Hammers are so against a loan move that if the South American clubs don’t pay for a permanent move, Luizao will remain with the team until next summer.
In the January transfer window, West Ham only brought in Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips on loan and loaned out Said Benrahma, Conor Coventry, and Thilo Kehrer. Pablo Fornals also headed to Real Betis for €8m.
