Just ahead of the NBA’s 3 p.m. ET trade deadline, the Boston Celtics executed a couple of transactions. They acquired guard Jaden Springer from the Philadelphia 76ers and traded guard Dalano Banton to the Portland Trail Blazers for a heavily protected second-round draft pick, as reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Banton, who had limited playing time during his stint with the Celtics, averaged 2.3 points and 1.5 rebounds in 7.1 minutes over 21 games. In his place, the 21-year-old Springer will join the team as a developmental guard off the bench. While Springer has struggled on the offensive end, shooting 39 percent from the field and 21.6 percent from three-point range, he has showcased strong defensive abilities during his time in the NBA.
In addition to these moves, Celtics president Brad Stevens had previously bolstered the team’s frontcourt by acquiring big man Xavier Tillman from the Memphis Grizzlies. With these three transactions, the Celtics look to strengthen their roster ahead of the deadline.
