Football Insider has reported that Tottenham Hotspur defender Joe Rodon will be sold permanently at the end of the season, with the club setting an asking price for the Welsh international. According to the report, Leeds United will need to pay a fee between £10-15 million to secure his signature.
Despite being a key player for the Championship club, Rodon has not been a part of Tottenham’s plans and multiple Premier League clubs are interested in signing him. However, in January, several clubs attempted to sign him but were unable to meet Tottenham’s valuation of the defender. It remains to be seen if Leeds will be willing to meet this valuation at the end of the season.
At 26 years old, Rodon is not part of Ange Postecoglou’s first-team plans at Tottenham, making a permanent move away from the club likely during the summer transfer window. Returning to the north London club would not be ideal for his career, as he needs regular playing time at this stage.
Leeds’ potential promotion back to the Premier League could be a deciding factor in the defender’s future, as a strong finish to the season could see the club willing to pay the required fee to sign him permanently.
With Tottenham bolstering their defensive ranks and Rodon dropping down the pecking order at the club, it seems unlikely that he will return in the summer. Instead, he should focus on performing at a high level to secure a move to a club where he can be a valued asset and get regular first-team action.
