Former Preston, Millwall and Ipswich striker linked with summer transfer to European royalty

Former Preston North End striker Troy Parrott is generating significant interest as the summer transfer window approaches, with several of Europe’s most prestigious clubs expressing keen interest in signing the Republic of Ireland international. After a somewhat turbulent loan spell at Deepdale last season, Parrott has enjoyed a resurgence while playing for Eredivisie outfit Excelsior, where he has notched an impressive seven goals and contributed three assists in 18 league matches.

This stellar performance has captured the attention of a number of Eredivisie powerhouses, including Ajax, PSV Eindhoven, Feyenoord, and AZ Alkmaar, all of whom are reportedly vying for his signature. Possessing 18 months left on his contract with Spurs, Parrott’s decision to pursue a move to the continent has revitalized the potential and promise he once exhibited during his tenure at Preston.

Despite grappling with inconsistency during previous loan stints at Millwall, Ipswich, and MK Dons, the 21-times-capped Ireland international has undeniably made a significant impact in the Netherlands. As a result, he now finds himself at the epicenter of a potential transfer tug-of-war among some of Europe’s most respected clubs, all aiming to entice him away from North London, where he has been stationed since 2017.

Parrott’s time at Deepdale was marked by a mixture of promise and frustration, as he suffered an early hamstring injury shortly after scoring his first goal in the Championship against Norwich in October 2023. Subsequently, he was sidelined for three months, and though he made 18 more league appearances upon his return in January, he only managed to add two more goals to his tally, completing the full 90 minutes on just three occasions.

Despite these challenges, Parrott’s success in the Eredivisie has propelled him to the forefront of the summer transfer discussions, and his potential move to a revered European club is poised to mark a significant turning point in his career. His impressive goal-scoring record and newfound consistency have certainly piqued the interest of the continent’s elite, promising an exciting and potentially transformative transition for the talented young forward.
