Leicester City ‘poised’ to open talks to avoid free transfer possibility

Leicester City is looking to extend defender Jannik Vestergaard’s contract as his current deal is set to expire this summer.

The Danish centre-back has been a crucial part of City’s defense this season, playing in 30 Championship matches and scoring two goals. His presence has helped Leicester secure a 12-point lead at the top of the table.

Vestergaard joined Leicester in 2021 from Southampton for £14 million but had a limited role in his first season. With the possibility of leaving as a free agent, City is reportedly set to open talks with the 31-year-old about a contract extension, but the outcome is uncertain.

Under new manager Enzo Maresca, Vestergaard’s fortunes have improved this season, and he remains focused on helping the club secure promotion back to the Premier League.
