During his time as manager of Leeds United, Jesse Marsch has opened up about the legal action the club considered taking against Everton. Leeds, along with other clubs, were considering suing Everton for violating the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability rules.
In November, Everton was deducted 10 points for their financial fair play breach, and they are awaiting the outcome of their appeal this week. However, they were hit with a second charge last month, alongside Nottingham Forest, which could result in further point deductions.
Although Everton is facing the risk of relegation this season, the infractions occurred while Leeds was still in the Premier League, which is a point of frustration for Marsch, who was let go by Leeds over a year ago.
“We were aware of the Fair Play issues at Everton,” Marsch remarked on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football. “Leeds United was part of the original lawsuit challenging Everton’s status.”
Reflecting on the situation, Marsch expressed that it would have been better to have seen points deductions happen while he was at Leeds. Meanwhile, reports in the Daily Mail suggested that Leeds, Burnley, and Leicester City, the three clubs planning to sue Everton for £100 million each, had abandoned their plans due to concerns of pushing Everton into administration.
