Fresh from his appearance on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, Jesse Marsch has been talking about things relating to Everton once again. Having analyzed their clash with Crystal Palace earlier in the week, the former Leeds United coach was well-spoken and insightful throughout a thoroughly interesting segment both before and after the match.
Not content with offering analysis on Everton’s performance alone, Marsch also took the time to praise Sean Dyche for one tactical maneuver he made mid-game, bringing on Jack Harrison, which he felt changed the outcome of the match.
However, since then he has been chatting elsewhere, and has actually thrown some light-hearted shade at one former Everton player. In an interview with CBS Sports, the two hosts pressed Marsch for an answer to their rather unprofessional question.
‘Have you ever had a guy where you’re like ‘Man the guy just stinks in training’,” they asked.
‘Yeah, there’s a lot,’ Marsch laughed back before they pressed him for names.
He then goes on to outline three of his former players, one of which might be of note to Evertonians. The 50-year-old mentioned: ‘In New York, it was Kemar Lawrence, in Leeds it was Crysencio Summerville, Ademola Lookman maybe at Leipzig.’
This remark led to the question of how Ademola Lookman is performing now, which triggered a reflection on his time at Everton, raising expectations at his arrival with a late goal against Manchester City. Although, Lookman failed to meet the high potential he showed in the beginning and he didn’t live up to the £7.5m the club spent on his services, making a profit with his £22m sale and his eventual departure was met with widespread contentment.
Nevertheless, Lookman has found success in Serie A with Atalanta, scoring and assisting numerous times. Last season saw the Nigeria international score 13 times in the league while assisting eight more, and this year he already has ten goal contributions from just 18 appearances.
He is enjoying the form of his career with Atalanta, which could be causing Everton to perhaps regret their decision. However, the article hints at a possible reason for Lookman’s initial struggles – a poor attitude.
