Tottenham Hotspur ‘leading’ transfer race to sign Championship winger – but Aston Villa have buy-back clause
Reports indicate that Tottenham is eyeing Hull City winger Jaden Philogene, and they appear to be in the lead to capture the 22-year-old’s signature when the summer transfer window opens. However, the situation is not as straightforward as it seems. Aston Villa also has their sights set on Philogene and has an exclusive buy-back clause in his contract with Hull. This clause can only be activated if Hull achieves promotion this season and they are also obligated to match any higher offers from rival clubs.
Last September, Hull vice-chairman Tan Kesler emphasized that Philogene is, without a doubt, a Hull City player and that Aston Villa can only exercise their buy-back option if Hull is promoted. Additionally, they must match any other offers from rival clubs. Despite Spurs boasting exciting attacking talent in their ranks, including Dejan Kulusevski, Manor Solomon, and Son Heung-min, none of them possess the same level of flair and unpredictability as Philogene.
Known for his lightning-quick speed and wizard-like dribbling ability, Philogene has the potential to unlock even the most solid defences and score spectacular goals. This season, he has already notched eight Championship goals and contributed six assists for Hull.
