SAD NEWS: “Special” Leeds player suffering with rare injury, says Farke

One Leeds United player suffered an unusual injury and couldn’t even get on the team bus during the week, Daniel Farke has revealed.

Chelsea 3-2 Leeds
Leeds faced their first defeat of 2024 on Wednesday, falling to Chelsea in the FA Cup. The team showcased an admirable performance, with teenagers Archie Gray and Mateo Joseph standing out in a modified lineup.

Joseph scored twice and Gray received the Player of the Match award after playing in his favored midfield position. The team’s focus now shifts solely to the Championship and the busy schedule of games over the next seven days.

Leeds Injury News
Several key players were absent for the loss at Stamford Bridge, including regulars Georginio Rutter and Ilia Gruev, who were both dealing with minor injuries. However, Joe Gelhardt, who was not in the squad, is also reported to be injured.

According to Farke in his post-match press conference, Gelhardt experienced a back spasm during training, which only happens ‘once or twice a year’. Despite training the day of the press conference, he was unable to walk when they traveled.

The 21-year-old has made 11 appearances in all competitions this season, bringing his total Leeds tally to 52. He has mostly featured as a substitute.

Should Gelhardt miss the upcoming game, then Joseph could potentially move up the ranks following his impressive performance against Chelsea.
