Leeds United make calls on key player as squad named v Huddersfield Town
Ilia Gruev will not be available for Leeds United’s match against Huddersfield Town on Saturday (2 March), as reported by Leeds Live.
Gruev did not play in the midweek FA Cup loss at Chelsea, but there was some hope that he would be ready to play against Huddersfield, according to Daniel Farke.
However, Leeds Live reported [2 March] that Gruev will not be in the squad for the game at John Smith’s Stadium.
On the positive side, Georginio Rutter is included in the 21-man group and Joe Gelhardt may also have a chance to play in the West Yorkshire derby.
Unfortunately, Jamie Shackleton will not be able to play due to illness and Pascal Struijk is still absent.
Gruev’s absence will be a significant setback for Leeds, as he has had a major impact since joining the team.
Despite this, Farke has several other options, including potentially using Archie Gray alongside Glen Kamara in holding midfield, or utilizing Ethan Ampadu in that position.
The depth and versatility of the Leeds side is evident, providing strength in all areas of the field.
The return of Rutter would also be a welcome addition for Farke, as his presence was missed in the match against Chelsea.
Although Leeds is considered the favorite for the early kick-off, they have consistently proven that they can handle the pressure of high expectations.
Regardless of the lineup chosen by Farke, it is expected that the team will perform well at the John Smith’s Stadium to keep their automatic promotion hopes alive.
