The Premier League has agreed to meet with 777 Partners this week as they move closer to a decision on the potential takeover of Everton, as reported by the Daily Mail.
The American investment fund had initially hoped for a resolution by the end of 2023. However, the process has extended to six months now.
On Monday (4 March), Matt Hughes reported that 777 co-founder Josh Wander is set to meet with league officials in the coming days.
“The Premier League has indicated their willingness to meet with 777 Partners, the proposed buyers of Everton, as they approach a decision on the controversial takeover,” Hughes wrote.
“Mail Sport has learned that league officials will finally meet with 777 co-founder Josh Wander this week to discuss the bid for Everton, a development that 777 Partners is interpreting positively.
“777 is frustrated with the length of time taken to secure a meeting with the Premier League following the announcement of the deal to buy Everton from Farhad Moshiri last summer.”
The delay in the Premier League’s decision regarding 777 Partners remains a mystery. More documents were reportedly submitted last month, indicating that the process is now in its final stages, much later than initially anticipated.
Since news of the takeover emerged, Everton have faced a points deduction, an appeal, and a second PSR charge. If 777 Partners were unsure of the challenge ahead, they are certainly aware now.
While there have been concerns surrounding the Americans, it is understandable that the Premier League has been thorough in its evaluation.
However, Everton have been left in limbo for months. If the takeover does not go through, the club will have limited options and will essentially have to start from scratch.
Supporters are eagerly awaiting a decision from the Premier League. With face-to-face talks planned for this week, it seems likely that a decision will be made soon.
Only then, if approved, can Everton prepare for a new era beyond the Farhad Moshiri era.
