Ipswich Town isn’t backing down in the battle for automatic promotion from the Championship, despite a setback to their aspirations last week. In a tightly contested race, each point gained or lost holds significant importance. While Leicester City currently leads the pack, both Ipswich and Leeds are set to compete in Championship matches this weekend, with City focusing on their FA Cup quarter-final against Chelsea.
Following a disappointing 2-1 loss to Cardiff City in their previous game, Ipswich slipped to third place after Leeds’ victory over Sheffield Wednesday. Both City and Leeds supporters eagerly awaited the outcome of Ipswich’s match against Wednesday, with Portman Road the venue for their clash.
Ipswich wasted no time in asserting their dominance, as Omari Hutchinson netted the opening goal just 15 minutes into the game. Cameron Burgess extended the lead to 2-0 before Nathan Broadhead effectively sealed the victory before half-time.
The Tractor Boys continued their onslaught after the break, with Hutchinson securing his second goal just three minutes into the second half for a 4-0 lead. Ali Al-Hamadi added to the scoreline with two goals in the final ten minutes of the match.
Unfortunately, Ipswich suffered a setback when midfielder Wes Burns had to be substituted in the first half due to a suspected hamstring injury. Despite this, Ipswich’s convincing win moved them back above Leeds in the table, just one point behind City.
Leeds will look to reclaim their spot in the automatic promotion places and potentially overtake City when they face Millwall at Elland Road. A victory by a two-goal margin would elevate them above City on goal difference, while a one-goal win would see City retain their top position based on goals scored.
