Despite Forest being docked four points on Monday, which is fewer than Everton’s earlier six-point deduction (four of which have been overturned), confusion still reigns among the fans at Goodison Park. The financial accounts show that Forest suffered greater losses than Everton, making the situation even more baffling.
In an article for The Athletic on March 18th, Philip Buckingham shared Everton’s restrained reaction to the recent events.
“Everton is choosing to remain silent,” Buckingham stated. “They still have another PSR charge to address, with the possibility of a second points deduction looming. The club has no interest in engaging in a public disagreement following Forest’s milder sanctions.”
Privately, however, there is undoubtedly frustration brewing within Everton. Two infractions, one more severe than the other, yet the punishments don’t seem to align. With no clear guidelines established for PSR breaches, these inconsistencies are deeply aggravating for Everton.
Fans of the club are right to question Forest’s penalty, particularly in light of the initial ten-point deduction. The Premier League’s recent declaration that a six-point deduction would be the minimum for financial rule violations only adds to the confusion.
It seems that those in charge are making arbitrary decisions without a clear understanding of the situation. Everton is bracing itself for another punishment, likely another four-point deduction, which could jeopardize their status as a top-flight club.
