Leeds United were initially disappointed to lose Luis Sinisterra to Bournemouth late in the summer transfer window, but in hindsight, it appears to have been a stroke of genius.
During a press conference on Friday, Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola disclosed that Sinisterra has encountered yet another injury setback. The Colombian player suffered a hamstring injury while on international duty and is expected to be sidelined for a minimum of four to five weeks, adding to his woes.
By the time Sinisterra makes his return in late April or early May, he will have only featured in six Premier League matches for the Cherries since his arrival in September. Despite Bournemouth exercising their option to secure his services permanently in the winter transfer window for approximately £20 million, which is slightly less than what they paid initially, it seems like a smart move considering his recent injury struggles.
Although it is unfortunate to see a player, particularly one linked with Leeds, endure such setbacks, it appears that Sinisterra’s challenges are likely to persist. The scenario could have been different had he remained at Leeds this season, potentially reigniting his career alongside those who chose to stay.
Instead, he faces a race against time to make a comeback in what has been a lackluster debut season at Bournemouth. The club may begin to question whether they will ever recoup the £20 million they invested in him.
