Watford are feeling positive about the availability of Jamal Lewis, Ryan Andrews, and James Morris as they prepare to take on Championship leaders Leeds United this week. In a recent injury update at his press conference, interim head coach Tom Cleverley provided some insight into the trio’s conditions.
“Jamal Lewis underwent a scan after being ruled out of the Birmingham game, which unfortunately prevented him from joining Northern Ireland,” Cleverley explained. “However, we are optimistic that he will be back in action during the Easter period.
“Ryan Andrews sustained a dead leg while on duty with England Under-20s. After speaking with their head coach Ben Futcher, it was decided that he should return to the club for recovery. He has since rejoined the team for training.
“James Morris experienced some tightness during the week, but we are confident he will recover in time. While Ken Sema and Jeremy Ngakia are still on the sidelines with mid-term injuries, the rest of the squad is fit and ready to play.”
Despite currently sitting in 13th place in the Championship, Watford will face Leeds United at Vicarage Road on Good Friday. Giorgi Chakvetadze and Ismael Kone will be evaluated upon their return from international duty with Georgia and Canada, respectively. Chakvetadze played a key role in Georgia’s qualification for the 2024 European Championships, while Kone helped Canada secure a spot in the Copa America. Yaser Asprilla also found the back of the net for Colombia in their recent victory over Romania.
“I am thrilled for these players,” Cleverley expressed. “It’s a huge achievement for Giorgi and his country to qualify for the Euros. I believe he has received recognition from his Prime Minister, and I’m sure there will be celebrations in Georgia.”
The team will be without Wesley Hoedt, who is serving the final game of his two-match suspension. Nonetheless, Cleverley remains confident in the squad’s ability to face the challenges ahead.
