Phil Hay of The Athletic has revealed that Liam Cooper is not expecting a contract extension with Leeds United at the end of the season. Following a tough game against Watford, where Leeds drew 2-2, Cooper, the captain, is aware that his time at Elland Road may be coming to an end. Despite his experience, Cooper’s recent performance highlighted the challenge of breaking up the partnership of Ethan Ampadu and Joe Rodon in defense. Hay stated that Cooper understands there may not be a place for him moving forward, with Ampadu and Rodon proving to be a solid duo at the back. With Luke Ayling already moving on, Cooper is one of three 32-year-olds facing an uncertain future as their contracts expire. It seems that a new generation of players is thriving under the leadership of Farke, leaving little room for Cooper to continue his role within the squad. While Cooper has been a loyal and dedicated member of the team, injuries and a shifting dynamic have led to his decline in influence on the pitch. As Leeds look to the future, it appears that the time has come for Cooper to part ways with the club, particularly if they secure promotion back to the Premier League.
