Leeds are eager to bring Kalvin Phillips back to the club through an initial loan move if they are able to secure promotion to the Premier League.
Currently on loan at West Ham, Phillips will be returning to Manchester City at the end of the season. City, the current Treble holders, are looking to sell him on a permanent basis for a fee of £30 million after signing him from Elland Road in 2022.
Phillips has a strong emotional bond with Leeds and the club is keen on re-signing the 28-year-old if they make it back to the top-flight next season. Despite their interest, meeting City’s asking price may pose a challenge for the newly-promoted team, especially considering Phillips’ high salary of £150,000 per week.
With Daniel Farke’s team currently in third place in the Championship, Leeds will have to secure promotion in order to pursue a deal for Phillips. They hope to strengthen their squad in the summer and are open to the idea of bringing him back, given his experience in the Premier League and with the national team.
Although Newcastle showed interest in Phillips in January, it seems unlikely that West Ham will pursue a permanent deal for him after his limited playing time under David Moyes. Phillips will have other options to consider, but a return to Leeds could be a possibility if all the factors align in their favor.
