Preston is ramping up their efforts to retain their sought-after captain, Alan Browne, amidst interest from Coventry City and newly relegated Sheffield United.
According to reports from Alan Nixon of The Sun, Coventry City is interested in the 29-year-old midfielder who is set to become a free agent this summer after spending a decade at Deepdale. Browne, who has played nine seasons in the Championship, is known for his versatility in various midfield positions and out wide. Last season, he contributed four goals and four assists to his team.
Coventry manager Mark Robins is looking to bolster his midfield after releasing Liam Kelly and with Callum O’Hare’s departure imminent. Browne is currently weighing his options, with several offers on the table for him.
However, Nixon suggests that Coventry’s chances of signing Browne, an Irish international with 35 caps, are diminishing. Preston has reportedly offered Browne a lucrative contract, making it difficult for rivals like Sheffield United and Coventry to compete.
City owner Doug King has expressed confidence in the club’s recruitment department and their ability to support Robins in strengthening the squad for a promotion push next season. Preston’s efforts to retain Browne may prove successful in the coming weeks.
