Simon Jordan is usually a fair and knowledgeable pundit when it comes to discussing Celtic. However, on this occasion, his comments have left me scratching my head.
Amid celebrations of Man City securing their fourth consecutive title, Jordan felt the need to defend the English Premier League from accusations of monotony due to one team’s dominance. In doing so, he took an unnecessary detour to criticize Celtic and the Scottish league in an attempt to shield England’s top tier.
Questioning the competitiveness of Scotland’s league, Jordan seemed to overlook the fact that Celtic faced three defeats and six draws this season, while other teams like Hearts and Kilmarnock managed to take points from them. He failed to acknowledge that Rangers were also defeated by Ross County, Motherwell, and Kilmarnock.
This attempt to compare the two leagues is baffling. The SPFL and the English Premier League are entirely different entities, and it is unfair to pit them against each other in this manner. If Jordan truly wants to defend the EPL, he should refrain from bringing Celtic into the conversation.
